Bio

 

Jess Lance is the founder of several film organizations and festivals such as the Upstate New York Film and Video Festival, Dropped Frames Film Society, and the new Denver Filmmakers Co-op.  Her professional experience is primarily in television and commercial production, but her interest in the media arts is broad.


Jess attended the University of Arizona receiving a B.A. in Media Arts and a minor in Music.  She received an M.F.A from Syracuse University in Film and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Women’s Studies.  While at Syracuse, she was awarded the Shaffer Fellowship award and numerous production and research grants.


As a filmmaker, Jess works with issues of gender, militarization, and war.  She is interested in alternative exhibition of the moving image including installation and online screening.  Jess is currently in post production for a large documentary project, writing a screenplay, and is finishing some Super 8 work .


Jess’s hobby is music.  She has been playing jazz trumpet for 17 years and knows a few chords on the guitar.
